Titanic replica in an amusement park that simulates the tragedy of 1912
A real-zise Titanic replica will be the main attraction of a theme park in China which has a museum and a simulator of the shipwreck of 1912, said Sunday at a press conference in Hong Kong, project financiers, according to Reuters.
Chinese version of the “unsinkable ship”, which cost one billion yuan (165 million dollars) and whose inauguration is scheduled for 2016, will be built at a distance of at least 1,500 miles from the nearest ocean, in the Sichuan province.
“We believe that the spirit of the Titanic deserves to be known. Universal love and sense of responsibility that was shown during the shipwreck is the spiritual wealth of human civilization”, said Su Shaojun, chief executive of Seven Star Energy Investment Group, which financed the project.
The project aims to be more than a museum that reconstructs the original ship and the movie “Titanic” in 1997, directed by James Cameron. The simulation allows a group of several people to simultaneously experience the sensations that were on the ship in 1912.
“When the ship hit the iceberg you will shake, it will tilt to one side. People will feel like they are about to drown using sound and light effects. They will think, «The water will drown me, I must escape with my life»”, said Su Shaojun.
The Steamer Titanic sank on April 15, 1912, during his first trip of the English port of Southampton to New York, and in the wreck over 1,500 people died.
In 1997, the feature film “Titanic” with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet in the lead roles, has grossed nearly $ 2.2 billion worldwide, is currently the second film in order of global record earnings, after ” Avatar” also directed by James Cameron.
Actor Bernard Hill, who played Captain Edward Smith in the movie ” Titanic”, said during the press conference held on Sunday that a theme park that reconstructs a tragedy is not a disrespectful gesture, as claimed by critics of the project.
“The project was approached in a delicate and sensitive way, and builders are aware of the scale of the disaster of 1912″, said Bernard Hill.
Building the Titanic replica ship is scheduled for early this year. The Cultural Tourist Park and Seven Star International Romandisea will have also an artificial beach, a 6D film projection room and copies of a Venetian church building and a castles from Europe.
