How To Make Easy Gold in Warlords of Draenor – WOW
In this guide I will show you step by step, my favorite ways to farm gold in World of Warcraft. I have been perfecting this method for months now, and it is 100% fool proof. It does work best if you are level 100.
Below you will find some of the best ways to earn some extra cash in Warlords of Darenor.
1. Farming Grim Batol, collecting Embersilk Cloth and Crafting Embersilk Bags
This method also works best when:
1. You are a maxed level tailor, so you have a chance to get extra cloth.
2. Either you, or an alt, are max level enchanting to DE all of the greens.
3. Have a Traveler’s Tundra Mammoth to sell off vendor trash quickly, but this is not necessary since you will be using your fly-mount to the nearest town after each run.
This method involves farming the instance Grim Batol on normal, using Potion of Treasure Finding, collecting lots of
Embersilk Cloth and turning it into
Bolt of Embersilk Cloth.
This guide will be most effective if you have a tailoring and enchanting with at least 525 skill level.
First off, we will need Potion of Treasure Finding. You can buy these off of ah, or make them yourself with an alchemist, but this method depends on these little treasure chests that drop whilst using the potion. I prefer to make my own, it increases profit because there is no gold going into the potions.
Next we make our way to Twilight Highlands. Many people should already have this area unlocked from when they were leveling from 84-85, but if you don’t, you may have to complete the quest chain that the quest board gives you in either Orgrimmar or Stormwind.
Grim Batol Map - Entrance location World of Warcraft
As you can see, Grim Batol is all the way on the left. But before we head there, I would recommend setting your hearthstone to the closest town to Grim Batol for easy access. For horde this will be Bloodgulch, and for alliance this will be Thundermar.
Once outside of the instance, make sure you set the difficulty to normal. I find heroic to be too hard. You can now enter the instance.
Now for the fun part!
Once inside you will see a couple of NPC’s with quests. You can ignore them for now, or accept them, but the quest may slow you down along the way since one of them is a mounted dragon quest.
Now that you are inside of the instance, you can pop your potion. I have a strategic way of gathering up the mobs and aoe’ing down whole groups at once. This is easily done with my 543ilvl mage, but some lower item level 90’s may have trouble with it.
Here is the link to a video I made showing how to fully clear Grim Batol, and the items/results of my 10 minute run
As you can see from the video, if you are fairly geared like I am, you can pull mobs fast and make this run in under 10 minutes. This method should also work for fresh 90’s as well, but they may need to take it slower and kill 1 pack of mobs at a time. Either way, I have found this to be the best spot to farm embersilk cloth and the mini treasure chests while using the potion.
The whole reason for this guide was to show you how to make gold off from this Grim Batol process. So lets get to it!
In my video that I posted in the farming tab of this guide, it shows that I turned my Embersilk Cloth into
Bolt of Embersilk Cloth, and then I sent my greens to my enchanter to disenchant for
Hypnotic Dust. The hypnotic dust and embersilk cloth are the 2 biggest things you need to get out of this so you can use your tailor to craft Embersilk Bags.
To craft Embersilk Bag:
15 Bolt of Embersilk Cloth
15 Hypnotic Dust
It might seem like a lot of work at first, but the end result is worth it.
Update: I set my hearth to Bloodgulch near Grim Batol, and farmed it 4 times in one hour, hearthing out at the end each time to sell vendor trash and send greens to my alt. In these 4 runs I collected:
*60+ Cataclysm Greens to DE.
*Crafted 6 stacks of Embersilk Bolts from the cloth I recieved.
*Over 600 gold in vendor trash.
After DE’ing the greens I had 6 stacks of Hypnotic Dust. That’s enough to make 9 Embersilk bags! 9 Bags x 400g+ =3600g+. And this is from one hour of work!
One very important thing to remember is that if you don’t get enough greens in Grim Batol, you can create Cata level greens such as Spiritmend Bracers and DE them for more hypnotic dust.
Each bag is worth between 350-500g each on the auction house! On my server at least. This should rake you in tons of gold.
This one bag that sold was the same one I used in my video. I wanted to prove how fast it could sell. It sold almost instantly, and for that much gold. Usually I would post 4-5 but try not to flood the market with them or the price may drop faster.
Here is another picture of the bags after they were crafted, with the auctionator price listed.
This instance should be able to be completed about 4 times per hour if executed perfectly. If you keep your hearthstone set to a nearby town you can just hearth out of Grim Batol at the end of the instance and fly back. Don’t forget to reset the instance every time!
I have had awesome luck using the method that I described in this guide. It is possible to make tens of thousands of gold from selling bags using this method, in only a couple weeks, even if you only do it for an hour or two a day.
I hope that everyone enjoys this guide, and learns something from it. It has taken me quite a while to perfect this method, but it has gotten me great results; And I know you will get great results as well! Like I said, it’s fool proof!
2. Cataclysm Raid Instances
It is time to head back to Cataclysm, specifically the Blackrock Mountain, Firelands, Bastion of Twilight, and Blackwing descent. Don’t be nervous, these three instances are totally soloable by any class at level 100. However, I would suggest taking along a friend or two, for nothing more than the company. WoW with friends is always better! At the very least, put on some good music, which can substitute for friends in times of need and also let you get the most gold from the run.
Earning gold here is pretty simple and can be completed in several easy steps:
- Step 1 – Clean out bags..
- Step 2 – Enter instance of choice.
- Step 3 – Slaughter everything. I mean everything.
- Step 4 – Pick up loot like you are on “Hoarders”.
- Step 5 – Vendor everything.
Besides making gold from the trash you pick up along the way, you can’t forget about the gold that you loot from trash and bosses. While it won’t make you a ton of gold, running these instances on a weekly basis can easily help to supplement your income without much effort.
The weekly lockout will of course keep you from doing the runs repeatedly, but you can do them with other max level characters too. So if you have three, for example, that means an extra 12k gold every week. Now that’s really efficient.
3. Treasure Hunters: Making Gold with Your Garrison
This is really one of the easiest ways to make a bit of extra gold with very little effort. As you send your Followers on missions, you will notice that some missions reward you directly with gold. The amount of gold varies from mission to mission, but the ease of obtaining it does not. Simply assign the right Followers, click a few buttons, and sit back and wait. When your Followers return successful you are up that amount of gold. The best part? While your missions complete you can head out into the world to pursue other more hands on money making methods.
Patch 6.1 added a few new traits to Garrison followers, including the new Treasure Hunter trait. Similar to the
Scavenger trait, this trait increases your yield of gold from Garrison Missions that reward gold. This guide will answer some basic questions about the
Treasure Hunter trait and make some recommendations about how to efficiently maximize your gold intake from your Garrison.
What does the trait do?
The Treasure Hunter trait is an additive percentage increase to the base gold offered as a reward for a mission. In other words, if a Garrison mission rewards 1,000 and you have 3 Treasure Hunters on the mission, you will get 4,000. If you already had a good team for gold missions, getting this trait on them will make those missions even more lucrative!
If you have a 100% chance to complete a mission and still have a spare follower slot, you can slot in a Treasure Hunter follower who doesn’t meet the requirements for the mission - they will still contribute their gold bonus.
How can you get it?
There are a few ways to get followers with the Treasure Hunter trait:
-
After 6.1, it is possible to acquire followers ‘in the wild’ (such as from questing) with the
Treasure Hunter trait.
-
You can recruit followers from the Inn at your Garrison with the trait by specifying that trait to your Inn’s headhunter (Akanja/Lysa Serion) and selecting one of the offered followers.
-
You can randomly reroll this trait onto followers using
Follower Retraining Certificate which is obtained from the following missions: Path of the Titans and The Ring of Trials. This item will randomly reroll all the traits and abilities on your selected follower, possibly allowing you to obtain the
Treasure Hunter trait.
-
You can purchase a
Follower Trait Retraining Guide at your Garrison (from Sergeant Crowler/Sergeant Grimjaw) for 1000
Garrison Resources each. This item will randomly reroll all the traits on your selected follower, possibly allowing you to obtain the
Treasure Hunter trait.
-
You can also get the trait automatically and guaranteed on Harrison Jones. You can acquire that follower by completing the
Master Relic Hunter achievement. Also, do not use the above reroll items on Harrison Jones - you risk losing the
Treasure Hunter trait!
What types of missions benefit from
Treasure Hunter?
-
There are Combat, Patrol, and Treasure missions that all offer gold as a reward. A full list of Garrison Missions that reward gold can be found here.
-
If you have a level 3 Inn at your Garrison, you are able to unlock Treasure missions that only reward gold. Despite this, often non-Treasure missions can net you even more gold than Treasure missions. In addition, it’s not only level 100 missions that have the best gold - with enough Treasure Hunters, you can make a lot of gold off lower level missions as well.
Which missions offer the most gold?
-
The most lucrative Garrison missions are the Blackrock Foundry and Highmaul Mythic missions that offer 1,000 in addition to the item reward (i.e. Black Forge). This can net you 4,000 with 3 Treasure Hunters. However, these missions require many Mythic kills so many players will not access them.
-
Blingtron’s Secret Vault is a Rare mission that can net you 2,000 with 3 Treasure Hunters.
-
The Golden Halls of Skyreach is the highest netting Inn (Treasure) mission, and can get you 600 with 3 Treasure Hunters.
-
Sub-100 missions that reward gold are a great way for your un-leveled alts to contribute to your gold making endeavors through their garrisons. You can see a full list of sub-100 missions that reward gold here.
Useful follower recommendations
-
The following is a list of counters that appear on missions that reward gold, in order from most to least. These are listed in order of how often they are found on missions that reward gold.
-
For example, it is much more preferable to have the
Treasure Hunter trait on a follower that counters the ability Massive Strike than Group Damage, since the former shows up more often on missions that reward gold. I have also listed the number of missions they appear on, with links to lists of those missions.
-
Massive Strike: 29 missions.
-
Wild Aggression: 29 missions.
-
Danger Zones: 29 missions.
-
Minion Swarms: 28 missions.
-
Powerful Spell: 24 missions.
-
Timed Battle: 21 missions.
-
Deadly Minions: 18 missions.
-
Magic Debuff: 18 missions.
-
Group Damage: 15 missions.
-
Be aware: while these counters show up the most frequently, that doesn’t mean this list will ultimately net you the most gold. In terms of highest amount of gold, not number of gold missions covered, the 3 best abilities to counter are:
-
Massive Strike
-
Wild Aggression
-
Powerful Spell
4.
Savage Blood &
Felblight
You might find it difficult to sell most materials, especially with Ore and Herbs being so easily obtainable this expansion. However, Savage Blood is in high demand and selling for decent amounts (500 Gold and up) on most servers. Savage Blood can be obtained by trapping elite creatures at your Barn, making this an extremely worthwhile building to have inside your Garrison.
If you don’t have this building, don’t feel obligated to build it. You can also purchase Savage Blood by using the Primal Spirits you collect from various sources in Draenor. No matter how you choose to get your Blood, the final step is the same; throw it up on the Auction House at a reasonable price and wait till someone buys it. It really is as simple as that.

5. Salvage Yard
If you don’t already have a Salvage Yard in your Garrison you should seriously consider it. It is one of the most interesting and potentially rewarding small buildings you can have. To make cash with you Salvage Yard you need to have it raised to Level 3. Once you have hit Level 3, you will start obtaining Big Crates of Salvage from Follower missions.
Then you open them and the free money begins. Big Crates of Salvage typically contain green items which often sell for a decent amount of gold, Transmog items that can be sold on the Auction House, or rare and epic BoE gear of various levels which can be typically sold for large amounts of gold. Worse case scenario, you only end up with a few grays and greens. However, vendoring these is still easy cash that can eventually add up.
