Central Europe faced more than a week with some of the worst flooding on record so far since the great floods of 202. Record floods have left at least 12 dead in recent days, including eight in the Czech Republic. The situation is particularly tense in Bavaria and the former German Democratic Republic (GDR), where several towns were already under water or in danger of being flooded.
