3922 Steps to Heaven: Amazing trail that takes you into another world (VIDEO)
Wars always leave behind empty monuments that serve as a reminder of hard times.
Although often these structures are haunted by bloody memories and often deadly conflict, combined with the nature surrounding them, create breathtaking landscapes.
One such place is found in Hawaii, the Haiku Stairs, also known as the “Stairway to Heaven”. Here, you can climb 3922 steps to one of the most beautiful and lively places on Earth.
The first steps starti in Haiku Valley, near Kaneohe on the island of O’ahu and climbs 853 meters at an angle of 30 degrees. The first stair was built from wood during the Second World War to help the antenna cables cross from one side of the valley to the other. In this way, the staff at Valley Haiku Naval Radio Station where able to communicate with U.S. submarines in Tokyo Bay.
In the 1950s, the stairs where rebuilt from galvanized steel was and extended in order for the staff of the U.S. Coast Guard can use the Omega Navigation System. A total of 3922 steps, 45 inches wide, were built of welded ship stairs.
Climbing the stairs is pretty easy to experienced hikers but adventurers argue that it is harder to get between spontaneous vegetation and slippery terrain.
But the biggest challenge is to move from the guarded gates at the bottom of the route. Although the stairs were repaired in 2003, tourists are not allowed to climb for safety reasons. However, weekly, an estimated 100-150 adventurous people get to travel the route. Fortunately, so far, no serious problems where encountered on the trail.
On a sunny day the mountain landscape with valleys and waters even out at the feet of the viewer as a true corner of paradise.
